Brigadier Christopher Hammerbeck CB CBE
Christopher Hammerbeck is the Senior advisor to SVA and has an unusual and varied spread of experience having held senior positions in the British Army; he commanded an armoured brigade in the first Gulf War and was the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of British Forces in Hong Kong planning the closure and withdrawal of the garrison on the change of sovereignty to his present appointment.
He was awarded the order of Companion of the Bath (CB) for his service in the Gulf. For the past 18 years he has held his present appointment as the Executive Director of the British Chamber of Commerce. Inescapably this is a high profile position and as a result he has become a frequent commentator on a wide range of subjects in all forms of the media both local and international and has a high public profile in Hong Kong, China and Asia Pacific. He is a frequent public speaker both in Hong Kong, China and the United Kingdom. In addition to that he is connected in executive and non executive capacities with a spread of companies ranging from hi tech solutions for energy conservation to political risk both regionally and globally.
He is the President of the Institute of Export (HK Branch), a Senior Advisor to the Chartered Management Institute of Hong Kong and a member of the Career Development Board of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is the Executive President of all the ex servicemen’s associations in Hong Kong encompassing the needs of over 14,000 Chinese former British Ex Servicemen and a Council Member of the Sea Cadets of Hong Kong. He was made an ‘Honorary Citizen of the City of Xiamen’ in China, a rare and distinct honour for a non Chinese and received a CBE for his service to “British Business Interests in Hong Kong” in the 2006 New Years Honours List”.
